II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Coillte
Nurseries are seeking expressions of interest from transport companies and
individuals for all or part of the distribution of forest plants to
customers.
Coillte Nurseries is a division of Coillte Teoranta – the Irish Forestry
Board – which sells and distributes forest plants in both Irish and export
markets. Production is primarily based in Carlow/Wicklow.
Approximately 80 % of sales are based in Ireland requiring localised
distribution of product throughout the Republic of Ireland. Distribution
requires a mixed fleet of rigid lorries (or smaller vehicles) with or
without trailers. Overall demand will be dictated by orders received but
will predominantly range from 20 to 50 lorry movements per week
(approximate total of 1000 loads ) during a sales season lasting from
November to June (peak period January – April).
A further 12 % of sales are delivered to a plant wholesaling business
based at Lauder, Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders, which requires the
use of articulated lorries (curtain-siders) during the period November to
May (estimated total of 35 loads).
The haulage requirements of Coillte Nurseries in Ireland can potentially
be satisfied by a range of service providers.
