II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The Carbon
Trust is looking to bring together firms with a strategic interest in
offshore wind to identify, fund and realise projects that can
significantly improve the economics of offshore wind farm development. The
initiative will be known as the Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA). The OWA
is to be a programme of RD&D projects that will be focussed on reducing
the cost of energy from offshore wind and improving returns for wind farm
developers. Projects will therefore be selected for their likely impact on
capital or operating costs and/or on generating performance in one or both
of the following areas: — Offshore wind farm design, construction and
operation (including foundations, access solutions and wake modelling);
and — Wind turbine design in the transition from onshore to offshore
deployment (including reliability) In order to deliver these projects the
Carbon Trust is seeking funding partners with a significant strategic
commitment to, or an existing operating presence in, offshore wind farm
development. The Carbon Trust is allocating up to £10m to the OWA and is
looking for contributions of up to £5m from each offshore wind farm
developer over the 3-5 year duration of the work. If your company is
